American Honda announced it is recalling 440,830 Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2018 to 2022 model years to resolve a problem with their airbag modules.
According to the company, the deployment threshold margin calibration is too sensitive to underbody impacts. As a result, the vehicle’s side curtain or side airbags could deploy if a driver hits a pothole, speed bump, or anything else on the road too hard.
The unexpected deployment of airbags increases the risk of crash or injury, Honda notes, adding there have been 25 reports of injuries related to the problem between Jan. 24, 2017 and April 2. No deaths have been reported.
Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved airbag deployment parameters, as necessary, at no cost.
