Hyundai Recalls Ten Ioniq 5 EVs for Potential Fire Issue

Hyundai is recalling a very small number of Ioniq 5s for an issue that could increase the risk of a fire. The automaker recently issued a recall for 10 units over a problem with the bus bar retention bolts, which were insufficiently tightened at the factory.

If the bolts loosen, it could cause electrical arcing inside the battery pack, making a fire more likely. Hyundai advised owners to park outside and away from structures until a fix can be issued, which is starting to sound like Chevy’s massive Bolt recall from a few years ago. Interestingly, only ten percent of this ten-vehicle recall is expected to be affected by the problem, so Hyundai could end up fixing just one Ioniq 5.

Affected vehicles were built on June 12 and 13, 2025. Hyundai dealers will inspect the bolts and re-tighten them if necessary, and owners who have incurred expenses related to the problem can be reimbursed with receipts.

This recall adds to the Ioniq 5’s short list of actions to date. All three of the National Highway Traffic Safety’s listed recalls for the vehicle have to do with loss of drive power issues, with the last coming in November last year. Hyundai issued the first in February 2024 and the second in March.
