Subaru’s 2027 product lineup is getting all charged up with the new Forester Wilderness Hybrid and the all-new Getaway EV, which the company took the wraps off of today in New York.
True to its roots, the 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid remains rough-and-tumble — just with much better fuel economy. The new model gets 25 percent better mpgs than its predecessor while retaining all of the off-road character Subaru buyers demand.
Meanwhile, the all-new Getaway also retains the brand’s traditional traits: all-wheel drive and off-road readiness. However, the automaker’s second all-electric model after the Soltera is also the most powerful production Subaru available at 420 horsepower. Now Subie buyers can get to the trees even faster with a less than 5-second zero-to-60 sprint time.
“The name Getaway was developed to highlight the SUV’s family-friendly versatility and utility with 8.3 inches of ground clearance, generous interior cargo capacity, and convenience features that make it ready for nearly any excursion. All that, and 420 horsepower from dual electric motors and exceptional driving dynamics,” the company noted.
The Getaway, which will arrive in dealership late in the year, will travel more than 300 miles on a full charge of its 95.8-kWh lithium-ion battery and uses the now-standard NACS charging port, according to company. Charging at a max speed of 150 kW, it takes about 30 minutes to go from 10 percent to 80 percent.
Early next year, Subaru will offer a version with a 77 kWh battery with less range, and presumably, a lower price. Living up to its name and purpose, it will seat up to seven people in its three-row layout. With the third row folded, the Getaway offers 45.6 cubic feet of cargo space, more than the Kia EV9. With the third row upright, the Getaway offers an impressive 15.9 cubic feet of cargo space.
The Getaway’s cabine offers a slew of family-friendly features including cup and bottle holders for every seat, three-zone climate control, dedicated third-row vents, customizable ambient lighting, USB-C charging ports in every row, as well as an available panoramic moonroof.
Meanwhile the newest iteration of the Forester Wilderness Hybrid’s powertrain uses an Atkinson/Miller-cycle 2.5-liter Boxer engine, which has been optimized for efficiency, paired with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery and electric motors. The result is a powertrain developing 194 horsepower.
The next-generation Subaru Hybrid system uses a series-parallel configuration to seamlessly integrate with the existing Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, which comes in handy when taking advantage of the 9.3 inches of ground clearance on the crossover.
The new model uses a Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to further improve fuel efficiency. Plus the X-MODE Dual-Mode System with Hill Descent Control features settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud making off-roading a little less complicated.
Subaru officials decline to offer pricing or specific arrival dates for either vehicle, saying only that they’re both expected late in 2026.
