Volkswagen plans to roll out the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas next month at the New York International Auto Show, but for those who simply cannot wait that long, it keeps offering little peeks at the new model.
“It will feature strong, muscular proportions and sleeker exterior surfacing,” VW says in a short release accompanying the teaser pic.
Today they offered up a closeup of the rear taillight and part of the liftgate — in a darkened studio. Right away its clear the back of the Atlas is getting some changes. The new taillights are still part of a light bar that wraps around the corner, but it appears to be slimmer and has a new checkerboard pattern to break up the lights.
Examination of previously release teaser pics from winter testing in Quebec show the 2027 model will be more evolution than revolution. Considering the previous updates for 2024 really moved the Atlas forward, subtle changes are likely best for now.
However, those who have driven the prototype say it gets a more powerful version of its EA888 Evo5 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder under the hood right now. A detuned version of the same engine powers the current Tiguan, which puts out 268 horsepower.
